As more and more would be entrepreneurs scramble to gain a foothold in the world of Internet marketing, the prices for services provided have taken a dip. Supply and Demand—the first rule of economics: when supply exceeds the demand, prices drop. This is an immutable fact. How does one succeed in such a highly competitive market? Furthermore, how does one exceed in a highly competitive market? The simple answer is, as it always has been, provide something unique and high quality.
Look at Apple Computers—they’re product line is 4 to 5 times as expensive as other PCs and laptops, and yet…people still buy Macs. In fact, people love their Macs. Why? Because they provide the user with sophisticated looks, virus-proof operating system, easy-to-use programming and an unbeatable "brand". Look at the movies, all the "hip" people are seen in coffee shops with their Macs.
Internet marketers who want to make it in a highly competitive marketplace need to invest in branding; they need to create a public image that says both "quality" and "hip". No one wants their public image to be dated. No company wants their product to be "last year". Internet marketers of the future will need to be one step ahead of the game. They will need to know what is coming after Facebook. They will want to be ready on the cusp of what’s new. This means scouring the Internet for trends. What are the high school students of today (the college students of tomorrow) watching, reading, and using? What are the college students of today working on?
You will rise to the top in this competitive world if you always stay one step ahead. That means constant training, constant observation, constant research as to what will be the next big thing. Web trends are very important. Three years ago no one had any idea that YouTube would be the Internet’s second largest search engine, but those that did…well, they are now making millions off of subscriptions, PPCs, and direct marketing.
You must offer what all the other competitors don’t—you have to offer quality and prescience. You need to be able to tell you client that you can take them to the next level before their competitors. If you can do this, if you can set yourself apart as "forward thinking", as "quality", as "hip" you will be the "Mac" in the world of PCs.
